After reading track reviews on Pitchfork, I’ve come to the realization that every song has a true meaning to it. I chose the song Capsize by Frenship & Emily Warren. I’ve always loved this song for both the lyrics and the beat, but I just now realized the actual meaning to the song. When I first heard this song, I immediately fell in love with it because of her voice and the sound of it. But I never took the time to really think about what this song is about. It makes me think because I know the lyrics to the whole song, yet I never knew the true meaning until now. After listening to it again, I really paid attention to the lyrics and thought about them. The true meaning to this song is two ex-lovers recovering from a recent breakup. I think the video helped me understand the meaning as well. Now that I’m thinking about it, music videos help tell stories better than just hearing the song through headphones. For example, I never watched this music video and I’ve loved this song for over a year. After watching the music video, I truly understood what the song was actually about, after all this time. Songs that have deep meanings to it are what people need. Everyone goes through situations in life and a lot of people listen to music to help them cope. Finding an artist or a song that relates to you/your situation is the best feeling.
